POMEGRANATE AND CAQUI

I'm so lucky to have friends that cultivates their own fruit and vegetables, and some times when they have ripe  products, I'm invited to collect them, it feels so good to come home with a basket full of autumn products, really short travelled food.

This week end we collected butternut squash, mini eggplants, zucchini, cabbage, green peppers, pomegranates and caquis. We even got 4 ecological eggs for the sunday breakfast.

The pomegranate, cultivated from ancient time from Iran to the north of Himalaya in India,  by the Mediterranean Sea, it can grow in very dry and desertic aereas, and due to the leathery skin, it was transported long distances by the caravans. Containing antioxidants, potasio, calcium and c vitamin, also called super-fruit, the juice or Grenadine, used to give colour and sweet taste to coctails and food dishes.

The caqui, or persimon, low calory, exotic and sweet fruit, originated in China, but widely popular in Japan, containing A, B1, B2, E, calcium, iron and protein, but wery special, while it's on the tree it tastes bitter, and need 2 or 3 days to overripe and get the sweet, sweet taste.

Theese fruits have a very short season, dont forget to enjoy them now. And have a good night, I think it will be nice to listen to the rain from bed, the fall is obviously coming now, the trees are changing from green to yellow, Manolito our cat, has stayed inside, sleeping on a blanquet in the sofa  the whole afternoon, yes, I think the autumn is here now.
